WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A massive ice disk in the Maine River inspired a 22News viewer to re-share a drone video he shot of the Westfield River in West Springfield that had a giant ring of ice in 2018.
Stanley described the ring of ice in an email to 22News as a slow whirlpool that starts forming when the weather freezes the water. Stanley told 22News he has been studying that section of the river along Route 20 in West Springfield since 1983.
22News took a glimpse at the river on Tuesday but did not see the ice form a ring.
